Love Me Lex: A Case Study in Sustainable Sapphic Distribution

Independent lesbian and sapphic films have long faced an uphill battle when it comes to visibility, monetisation and sustainable distribution. Too often, brilliant stories disappear after a festival run or struggle to generate meaningful revenue once released online.

Love Me Lex proved there is another way.

This case study explores how Lesflicks, in partnership with SapphicIFF and Infinite Pies, supported the Australian sapphic web series Love Me Lex through development, release and long-term monetisation - resulting in more than £6,200 GBP in SVOD/TVOD royalties and over $1,600 USD in AVOD revenue within 27 months.

YouTube: A Case Study

We examined the data from 3 different series between 2020 and 2025 as part of this case study:

  • Starting From Now - on both subscription (SVOD) and YouTube free with ads (AVOD) immediately
  • Beacon Hill - on Lesflicks and other subscription platforms (SVOD)
  • Love Me Lex - on Lesflicks starting as premium (PVOD), moving to rental (TVOD), then subscription (SVOD) and then 6 of 7 episodes on YouTube free with ads (AVOD)

We learnt that having full content freely available on YouTube directly competes with, and cannibalises potential revenue
